GeneXpert evaluations in Oman

GeneXpert System has been successful in worldwide market for over a decade. In Middle East, however, it was introduced much later. And although several countries in GCC could boast of having the experience of using this rapid molecular diagnostics system for years now, the Sultanate of Oman was not one of them.

In December 2011 GeneXpert System was finally introduced to Oman when Cepheid officially appointed its first and exclusive distributor in Oman (http://www.cepheid.com/company/global-distributors/middle-east).Since then Advance Healthcare Solution has been helping to deliver the message that GeneXpert stands for: message of better diagnostics- and better patient outcomes.

Over the course of following months multiple evaluations and presentations were conducted on GeneXpert technology in Oman.

In April 2012 it was introduced for the first time in Oman to Center for Public Health Laboratory in Darsait, for evaluation of its Xpert MTB/RIF test.

In June 2012 Sultan Qaboos University Hospital (SQUH) Microbiology Department tried their hand at Xpert MRSA, Xpert CT/NG, Xpert C.diff and, of course, Xpert MTB/RIF.

Royal Hospital has tried GeneXpert with a number of tests between September and November 2012.

And in the months between November 2012 and February 2013, it was introduced in Khoula Hospital for intra-partum screening of group B Streptococcus with Xpert GBS test, and MRSA/MSSA detection in skin and wound swabs with Xpert MRSA/SA SSTI.

What resulted was an overwhelmingly positive response from all involved, from laboratory technologists to ward physicians.

In several cases of acute conditions GeneXpert's rapid and accurate test results led to possibility of immediate and appropriate patient management, possibly saving the lives of these patients.
